The Arms of Jesus Mission answered the call of Wilson Maitre, a young Haitian man with a deep passion for serving his people. Wilson, a student at the Jamaican Bible College, was determined to make a difference in Haiti, a country facing immense challenges. Inspired by his vision, Pastor Sam Martin and the Mission recognized the need to expand their efforts to Haiti. The Arms of Jesus raised the necessary funds to support Wilson and other dedicated workers, and soon after, we launched a ministry in one of the poorest and most remote areas of Haiti.
Today, Arms of Jesus Haiti operates two primary ministry programs, each designed to address the urgent needs of the local community. Through these programs, we are working to bring hope, education, and sustainable solutions to Haiti’s most vulnerable populations. The Mission continues to grow and evolve, committed to making a lasting impact in the lives of the Haitian people.
Wilson Maitre serves as the Field Director of the Arms of Jesus Children’s Mission in Haiti. Growing up in challenging circumstances, Wilson developed a deep passion for helping children and creating opportunities for their growth.
After studying at Jamaica Bible College, with the support of AOJ Founder Dr. Sam Martin, Wilson returned to Haiti to begin his ministry. He started with a small feeding and teaching program for street children in Jacmel, which eventually grew into a thriving mission. In 1994, he launched the first kindergarten class in Cap-Rouge, bringing education and hope to the community.
Wilson is grateful for the vision and support of Dr. Sam Martin, whose commitment to missions has impacted countless families. Today, Wilson continues to lead efforts in Cap-Rouge, ensuring that children have access to education and spiritual guidance, fulfilling his dream of making a difference in the lives of the next generation.
Arms of Jesus Haiti runs three small schools in the remote, mountainous region of Cap-Rouge, located southwest of Port-au-Prince. This area is home to extremely impoverished families who rely on subsistence farming to survive. They grow crops like corn, peas, beans, fruits, and coffee, selling their harvests in the nearby city of Jacmel for a modest income. The children attending the Arms of Jesus schools receive a basic Christian education, with the added benefit of a hot lunch each day—often the only regular meal they will have. In addition to education, the Mission ensures that students have the necessary materials, uniforms, and footwear, giving them a chance for a better future despite the hardships they face.
Our monthly child sponsorship program reaches out to the most vulnerable children in Haiti, providing them with essentials such as food, clothing, and education. This program has a profound impact on families, as many children in this community lack the basics—a daily bath, a hot meal, or clean clothing. Through sponsorship, these children receive vital resources and opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach, helping to break the cycle of poverty and offering a glimmer of hope for a brighter future.
Haiti’s struggles are great, but together, we can bring hope and change. Your support is crucial to the success of our mission in Haiti, where children and families face overwhelming challenges. Whether through sponsorship, donations, or prayer, your involvement can provide education, nourishment, and a future full of possibility for the most vulnerable. Join us today in transforming lives and building a brighter tomorrow for the people of Haiti.
