Director's Blog
Dr. Sam Martin
Early in January, it was both an honor and privilege for me to be in Newfoundland, to preach and Commission the Mission Team from the Good Samaritan Church in St. John’s, and to meet with the Team from Avalon Search and Rescue, based in Bay Roberts, and speak at a Concert in Cavendish. Of course this included meeting some of our wonderful supporters and sponsors -The Newfoundlanders are special, special people! I could fill a years’ Blogs with stories of that time, but I want to share just one.
On a snowy Sunday afternoon, I was driven to Cavendish where Lori Fost, a tremendous supporter of AOJ had arranged a concert providing an opportunity for me to meet supporters and share about what the Lord is doing in and through the Mission. In spite of the weather a good number had gathered and the music, Gospel and traditional for the Concert, was provided by two Musical Groups, and it was a beautiful afternoon. However one song that was sung really challenged me. I had never heard it before, but the words were intriguing and challenging and I want to share them with you.
‘Someone made the sandals Jesus wore
They made them so his feet would not get sore
Do what you can do and he will never ask for more
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore.
God made the earth, the heavens and the sea
He left some little jobs for you and me
Some will build the church's then some will sweep the floor
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore
Someone made the sandals Jesus wore
They made them so his feet would not get sore
Do what you can do and he will never ask for more
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore.
We're all blessed with something we can do
Big or small it's up to me or you
You can tend the sick or you can feed the poor
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore’
To be honest, one never gives thought as to where Jesus got His sandals or clothes for that matter, but obviously someone did make His sandals (I believe there is a brand of sandals today which bears the name ‘Jesus Sandals’). However really it is the message of the song summed up the following lines:
‘Do what you can do and he will never ask for more
You know someone made the sandals Jesus wore.
We're all blessed with something we can do
Big or small it's up to me or you
You can tend the sick or you can feed the poor’
My friends, we are all ‘blessed with something we can do, big or small it’s up to me or you, you can tend the sick or you can feed the poor.’ If all of us did what we can do and should do, what a difference we would see in this broken world.
