‘Continue steadfastly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving….’ Col. 4:2-4
A week or so ago, my wife and I were in Guatemala, ministering to the people, encouraging the staff, attending to Mission business and sharing in various outreach events. It was a busy week, a week of challenges and blessings. As I write, I am anxious to ask you to join with us in prayer, urgent prayer for a young student. Let me explain.
My wife was out with our Social workers, visiting families and assessing needs and seeking to bring hope, comfort and help. She entered one home and was surprised to see a young teenager, a girl who sang in the School Choir my wife led last year. The girl’s mother explained that her daughter Michelle now 15 years old had just finished chemotherapy for throat cancer, and that the report from the Doctor was not encouraging and that the cancer had spread. My wife prayed with her mother and they were deeply moved.
Next day, my wife shared that Michelle was coming to the Campus hoping I would anoint her with oil and pray. When she arrived, we met in the Chapel and I saw a beautiful smiling teenager. We embraced, we talked and I shared that we were going to pray for her, trusting in God’s power and faithfulness. As I looked at her smiling face, I had to fight back tears. She was so brave, and seemed so full of joy. We prayed with Michelle, we prayed with her Mom and they were so grateful.
My friend, I share this asking that if you can, you just take a few moments to pray for Michelle, and for her Mother and Father, indeed the whole family. This will be a real encouragement to Michelle and her family.

Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful?Let him sing psalms.14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up.And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.16 [a] Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective,[b]fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5: 13 - 17
