Christians?

12/29/2016

Dr. Sam Martin

And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch." Acts 11 v 26

Recently I was preaching in Guatemala and after the service, the Pastor’s wife asked if I would pray with her and her husband. Of course I agreed but asked, “can you be specific with your need please.” She answered, “Yes some people in the Church are trying to get us out, they are making our lives miserable!’ At that, my heart broke. I am fully aware of the struggles in North American Churches, but in Guatemala?

We are told these days that young people are deserting the Church in large numbers. 1500 Pastors a month either resign or are forced out of ministry. I believe it was Dr. John MacArthur who said, ‘The Church is the only army that shoots it’s own!’

All of this is close to my heart. Having served in the Pastoral ministry for many years, I know the joys and the blessings, but I have also experienced the abuse, the hu..

A Heart Condition

11/29/2016

Dr. Sam Martin

“For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6 v 21.

During a recent visit to Guatemala, and seeking to respond to the tremendous needs in Haiti following Hurricane Matthew, my heart became heavy because it seems so many no longer have a passion to care or share. Churches are putting building programs and the like above Missions, that is, the fulfillment of the Commission of Christ.

At our staff retreat in Guatemala, as I shared what was happening in North America, I said: “helping the poor, feeding the hungry, sponsoring a child and the like, is not an economic issue but a heart issue” and I believe that! If our hearts are right, if they are filled with the love of Jesus and they should be (Romans 5 v 5: For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.) we would care and share r..

Update on AOJ’s Response to the Devastation of Hurricane Matthew

11/07/2016

Dr. Sam Martin

We give thanks to God for the faithfulness of people, Churches who stepped up top help us respond to the tremendous needs following Hurricane Matthew. We continue to distribute food to meet urgent and basic needs but we thank God for the new initiative, the provision of plants and seeds to enable families to face the future with hope. The following is the latest report from Haiti.

"Good evening, I am so happy this evening to send this report to you. As you know hurricane Matthew destroyed the agriculture in Cap Rouge, and banana trees, one of the most important crops was destroyed and the need of the people to find new banana plants was great.

As you can see from the pictures, men, women, even young children came from everywhere, lining up to receive banana plants and cassava plants. It was one of the greatest and the most difficult distribution programs we have done. This because people were pushing and shoving and did not wan..

Greater Love

10/31/2016

Dr. Sam Martin

To be honest when I read the following letter, I was moved to tears and reminded of the tremendous sacrifices people make to help us reach out to children and their families, attending to as many needs as we can. The letter arrived on October 16th and it is a humbling experience to share it with you:

‘Dear Dr. Sam Martin,

We hope this letter finds you and your family very well.

By this means, we send our greetings and wishes that God’s continued blessing will be on your ministry and life.

We are a family who lives in Fort McMurray, Alberta where the wildfire in May destroyed around 2000 houses, including our house. But the Lord saved everyone in this town, and He allowed this event as a reminder that our lives are in His hands. As the Bible says in Romans 8 v 28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

'Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him ….’ Matthew 5 v 42

Today my blog will be very brief because I want to lay before you a picture from Haiti. It is somewhat blurry but as the Chinese proverb says, ‘A Picture is worth a thousand words!’ The picture was taken earlier this week and attached to the following report from our Haitian Director:

‘The truck had great difficulty climbing the hill to Cap Rouge because of the road conditions. However we finally made it up there and the people were there waiting. We were able to do large food distribution and many people were blessed.

Unfortunately we had to close the gate of the clinic because of the crowds of people were coming to us. After the distribution, when the food was gone, the staff and myself had to stay inside the clinic for a long time, waiting until it was dark because so many people kept gathe..

A Good Eye or Bad Eye?

10/18/2016

Dr. Sam Martin

'Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord
Open the eyes of my heart
I want to see You
I want to see You
To see You high and lifted up
Shinin' in the light of Your glory
Pour out Your power and love
As we sing holy, holy, holy’

Do you ever wonder why people do not give to the work of God, to the Mission of the Church? Of course I am sure you have many answers, but In Matthew chapter 6, Jesus speaks about a ..

Sticking to the Script

Dr. Sam Martin

Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.’ Psalm 119 v 105.

A Conflicted Donald Trump Tries a New Tactic: Sticking to the Script

After months of flailing attempts, Donald J. Trump has begun to recast his political message in more structured terms and wrestle with his temptation to go off script….”

No this is not a Political post even although it is being written on the day of the first debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. It is rather a very important lesson from the campaign of Mr. Trump. So put your thinking camp on and consider this:
